Dr Mobashwer Alam is a plant geneticist and breeder. He has been working as a Research Fellow at the Centre of Horticultural Science (CHS) of Queensland Alliance for Agriculture and Food Innovation (QAAFI), The University of Queensland (UQ). He achieved his PhD in Plant Science from UQ and worked on trait genomics, physiology and modelling in sorghum. His present work aims to accelerate macadamia breeding using genomics and phenomics tools. He has been collaborating with researchers in universities and industries in multiple research projects, including human nutrition, plant size and efficiency, stress tolerance, herbicide resistance, pathogen detection, and plant phase changes. Over the last eighteen years, Mobashwer has maintained an exciting and productive career in agriculture, within which he has been holding cross-sectoral positions in teaching, research and industry in Australia, Bangladesh, and China. He is an author of 45 scientific articles, 2 book chapters, and an editor of a book on molecular breeding. His research interest is to work on state-of-the-art technologies to develop fast, accurate, and cost-effective selection tools for efficient breeding and profitable orchards.
