Sanjiv Gupta is a pathologist cum geneticist who is working on the barley disease resistance for over 2 decades at Murdoch University/DPIRD on various leaf diseases of barley in the regional and national projects in a collaborative manner. He has identified many resistances genes for various leaf diseases of barley which are now being used in commercially released varieties. Along side he has been involved in the screening of barley elite material and evolving diversity sets to identify new virulences for the foliar diseases. One of his highlights of his career has been the identification of adult plant resistances for powdery mildew for the first time in the world alongside unravelling complex nature of net form of net blotch resistance genes on 6H locus.
