Jonathan Amponsah

Born in an era when food scarcity was rife in majority of the global south, particularly in Africa, Jonathan became interested in global food security issues. This led him in the pursuit of knowledge and skills to contribute towards mitigating food production bottlenecks. In 2005 and 2011 he obtained a bachelor’s and master’s degree in Biological Sciences and Plant Biotechnology respectively. After, he was employed as a Research Scientist at the Biotechnology and Nuclear Agriculture Research Institute, Ghana where he was instrumental in conducting research into producing and micropropagating disease-free planting material for growers. In 2017 he enrolled for PhD in Agricultural Sciences at the University of Tasmania (UTAS). Post PhD in 2021, Jonathan has worked in various roles in agronomy, research, development, and extension including his current as Research Fellow in Plant Pathology at UTAS. Here, he’s part of a dynamic team working to combat various potato soilborne diseases.
